MACWILLIAM FAMILY
|
From the book, "Santo Tomas" by Frederic Stevens, page 560, is the following British family: Jean Cowan Shanks MacWilliam (mother) Richard Niven MacWilliam (father) Scott MacWilliam (their son) January 4, 2011 Dear Tom, My parents Richard (Dick) Niven MacWilliam and my mother Jean Cowan Shanks MacWilliam, and I, Scott, were interned in Santo Tomas from 1943 to 1944, before being transferred to Los Banos, from where we were rescued in February 1945. We were first interned in Bacolod, Negros from July 1942 before being transferred to Santo Tomas. Could you please add MacWilliam Family to your list. I have no pictures, but I have a 20,000 word autobiography which my mother wrote, mainly about her travel to the Phillippines in 1940, to marry my father and our experiences in 3 camps, which is probably too long to post in its entirety. I'll try to edit the war section and send to you for posting when I get a chance. She wrote it from memory, at home while ill with cancer and before she was admitted to hospital for the last time before she died. So, some parts may not be quite accurate or completely described, but it is still a moving and sometimes humourous account of camp life. (Click here for this story.) Please include me on your e-mail distribution list. Many thanks, Scott MacWilliam scottmac2@iinet.net.au ![]() or would like to be added to my POW/Internee e-mail distribution list, please let me, Tom Moore, know. Thanks! |
