MARY MAGDALENE "LENA" HUSSER (1916 - 1972)

December 6, 2008

While researching my great aunt's WWII Army nursing career in the Pacific theater, I came across your website.

Her name was Mary Magdalene "Lena" Husser, b:1916, Louisiana d:1972, Louisiana; married to Charles Bradley, supposedly another military veteran and fellow POW.

After the war, they married and lived in San Diego, CA, then divorced sometime later in CA, dates of both events are unknown. They had no known children.

Lena, as she was known in the family, never spoke of her experiences; she was a broken, dispirited shell of her former self, replete with the thousand yard stare and other behavioral problems. She died of esophageal cancer in the New Orleans Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).

Family secondhand knowledge from 2 of my living aunts related Lena was stationed in the Philippines when WWII began; left behind to become a POW of the Japanese, then possibly transferred to another POW camp, supposedly in Korea. I've exhausted internet searches of WWII military personnel databases; she appears in none. Any helpful guidance to obtaining her service info or the very slim chance of anyone knowing her would be supremely appreciated.

Thank you,

Cathy Moore
