CRASH IN OCEAN OFF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA

From Fletcher Hank's, "WHEN AND HOW THE CNAC CRASHES HAPPENED ON THE HUMP AND ITS ENVIRONS DURING WWII" (hand-dated 5/4/02)

"Moose" Moss, 6/24/44, C-47 #96.
In testing a new CNAC, C-47, #96 at Miami Beach, Fl., decided to give the girls on the beach an air show. He buzzed the beach at 25 feet, at maximum speed, with both engines on one tank. Both engines quit as the tank was empty and before he could change the selector valve to a tank with gasoline, he crashed in the surf and beyond the swimers. No one was hurt but the plane was totaled.
The plane was replaced and the number, #96, was assigned to the replacement.
