AVIADO FAMILY

January 17, 2008

My grandmother: Dorothy Olean Aviado
My mother: Jean Aviado
Jean’s twin sister: JoAnn Aviado

My grandmother, mother and aunt were interned in Santo Tomas for the first part of the war. My mother was 8 years old when they were interned but believes they stayed just over a year inside the walls of the camp. Then they were released to the local community under house arrest for the duration of the war. Jean doesn’t know exactly why they were released but remembers that some families were released if one member was severely ill and needed permanent medical treatment. They returned to Los Angeles, CA on an American troop ship after the war ended.
